Forgiveness

Today is National Day of Forgiveness. Forgiveness is good for your mental and spiritual health. It can heal relationships when both parties are involved. We need to 1) forgive others who have wronged us, 2) ask for forgiveness when we have wronged others, and 3) forgive ourselves.

Matthew 16:19 – “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Jesus said this to Peter, our first Pope, to establish the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Steps 1-3 above can free us but taking it a step further and making a good confession to a Priest, who is acting in the person of Jesus, gets it out of our head and heart, involves some guidance, penance, but most importantly–allows us to hear the words of absolution.

I have been married to Jason for 28 years and we have been blessed with 2 daughters--Stephanie and Emily. A cradle Catholic, I identify with Martha, who was so busy being busy that she missed out on an opportunity to hang out with Jesus.
